The Alcan

Hey there! Again, we're in Fairbanks, AK. We got here today and it we got on the official Alaskan Highway (Alcan) on Monday. (It starts in Dawson Creek, Alberta... which is pretty darn north itself. Then it's 1500 miles from there.)
So, we made some stops, got some good pictures, and thought we'd share our 4 day journey with you...

This is probably the longest straight stretch we had. Nell compared the road to a 1500 mile long Pig Trail, though not as curvy, and it gets worse the further north you get.

We saw some wildlife on our trip, such as this bear cub... which I think is the 11th bear we've seen

It really is a beautiful drive and looks about like this the whole way.

I think this is a stone sheep

Nell wanted to see how close she could get. About 10 ft before they ran off. She also saw two sheep ramming each other and one of the horns on one of the sheep fell off. I tried to go find it to get a souvenir, but to no avail, could not find it.

We stopped at Liard Hot Springs in northern British Columbia. It was very, very moist and wet and we saw these ferns, which is quiet rare for that far north.

It was about 70 degrees that day, but the water ranged from 96 to 128 degrees. We hung out in the cooler middle of that range.

It really is a pretty cool place. While there, we went to a Northern Lights exhibit and would love to see those someday.
We're in Watson Lake, Yukon and here is Sign Post Forest where there are around 60,000 signs from around the world. I couldn't even begin to capture the whole forest.

It was raining, but we found some cover to make Nell's really good fiesta pasta.

Beautiful. This was probably around 11-11:30 pm. It doesn't get all the way dark.

We took a tour, and it wasn't so good, but they were proud of it, and the tour and samples were free, so all in all, we had fun.

We went to Whitehorse, Yukon - the capital of the Yukon and the home of Robert Service and a new favorite artist of ours - Ted Harrison. Google him - he's good.

The world's largest weather vain. For real.

We saw wild horses just this morning. It's pretty cool to think they're still around.

Just about every gas station looked about like this, and they're about 100 miles apart. (By the way, the most we paid for gas about 5.68/gal. ...yeah.) Most of these little shacks were gas stations, hotels, rv parks, restaurants, and bakery's all in one.

And we made it!

We're going to see a bluegrass band tonight and see what there is to do in Fairbanks. As soon as we can, we'll update ya and let you know. I hope all is well. Thanks for checking in on us!
